1. I learned a technique from my friend Melanie with regards to dealing with my daughter and undesirable behaviour such as yelling "bad mom! Stupid baby", etc.
She calls it the Shock reaction. This will probably make a lot more sense in a video than in text, but it's like this...
It was after supper, and I knew that Sophia's hair was greasy the day before already, so I matter-of-factly said to her "shower time."
"No," she answered without taking her eyes of her tablet as she was watching some show on YouTube.
<<shocked look>>
"Sophia!"
She quickly looked at my reaction.
"Wha-at?!" She was taken by surprise and did not continue with her pattern of anger and disrespect.
I interrupted our pattern.
With a fake English accent I went on, "sweet little Sophias don't stay dirty. Where is the real Sophia???"
"You're weird," she took her eyes off the tablet and cracked a smile at me. She was a little confused and a little amused.
I took advantage of the newly sparked humour. "This is the dirty Sophia speaking! We must scrub this dirty Sophia to rescue the clean Sophia!"
Within a couple of minutes, she turned off the tablet and demanded I piggyback her to the shower so that she may be cleaned off.
Bingo! No fighting. Success :)
After taking a shower and washing her hair, she came out of the shower, "get my clothes!" It was her habitual mean tone.
Then she cracked another smile. "Just joking!" She asked sweetly for me to massage her back and feet with fractionated coconut oil as well as wild orange pretending she was at the spa.
Bed time was delightful this evening!
Thank you, Melanie for such a rich suggestion! And thank you, essential oils!
2. I worked together with a co-worker in a different department to resolve a very important issue for a client. The client was very grateful as was I.
3. I felt stomach discomfort within minutes of eating almost two Chinese steamed buns. This was a very vivid experience for me. The discomfort was not very great but subtle. I believe I am more in tune with my body, and will listen to it better each day.
Thank you for reading! And please do share your comments below. What is new and good for you today?
